Sunday School Ministry
(9:00 Service September through May following Children’s Moment)
Preschool Class
During
our 9:00 am service, children ages 3, 4, and 5 (but not yet in
kindergarten) are invited to our Preschool classroom where they will
participate in a variety of Christian character and Bible-themed lessons
taught through craft, game, music, puppetry, and storytelling centers.
Elementary Classes
During our 9:00 am Celebration Service we offer a rotational Sunday
School program where children learn about God and explore their faith
using all of their senses: sight, smell, taste, touch and sound!
Elementary-age children are placed in classes according to grade level
and travel with their class and volunteer shepherd to a different
station each week. These stations include art, drama, science,
storytelling, games, cooking, music, missions and gardening. Each
station offers activities that tie in with the theme and scripture
lesson for a six-week unit.
Junior High Class
Following Children’s Moment during the 9:00 service, youth in 6th
through 8th grades are invited to our Youth Room (located downstairs at
the end of the hallway) for their very own Sunday School class. This
class uses modern day technology and video discussion starters to allow
the youth to think critically about their own personal lives, the Bible,
Christian character, and how the three fit together. Youth have
opportunities to discuss the issues and struggles that are faced in
their own lives to gain an understanding of the relevance of their faith
journeys.
GROWING Children’s Ministry
(10:30 Service September through May following Children’s
Moment)
As a community of Christians,
it is important to teach children that our faith connects with
every aspect of our lives and can be expressed in a variety of
ways. Therefore we have launched a new style of
children’s ministry that is designed to engage and connect
children to God through the arts. We call this our GROWING
ministry. Throughout the year, children will participate in
six-week sessions during the 10:30 service that focus on one
area of the arts such as our children’s choir, hand bell choir,
drama, and dance. At the conclusion of the six week session,
the children will share what they have learned at the 10:30
service. Children in Kindergarten through 8th grades are
invited to join our GROWING program!

Summer Children’s
Ministry
(June through
August)
During the summer, children are invited to experience our 8:30 am
outdoor worship service at Centennial Park in downtown Wenatchee with
their families. At this service, kids are given an opportunity to
participate in children’s activities with our children’s ministry staff
or take the activity back to the grass with them so they can sit with
their family. During the 10:30am worship, children in Kindergarten
through 5th grade join together to hear Bible stories and experience God
through hands-on activities.
Vacation Bible
School
Each summer, a
four-day Vacation Bible School (VBS) is planned to bring children,
youth, and adults together for music, fun and learning.
See what fun we had
this year by viewing a slide show
VBS2008-Show.
Cradle Roll
The Cradle Roll
celebrates the birth of each child born into our community. Parents are
presented with gifts from FUMC and are visited a few times each year.
Contacts are made via mail, email, and visits every few months for three
years.
Nursery
Each Sunday a
well-staffed nursery is provided for children under the age of three.
Many youth and adults volunteer to assist the nursery attendant.
Acolytes
Acolytes assist
the pastors at the 9am and 10:30am service by bringing the light of
Christ into the sanctuary and lighting the kids on the Communion table.
A yearly training session is offered to children entering the third
grade who are interested in becoming acolytes.
Mission
Our children our
encouraged each month to join the congregation and their parents in our
Faith@Work program. In addition, each year the children sponsor
various mission projects including the mitten tree that provides warm
clothing for children in area schools; the giving tree to provide
Christmas gifts for families within our community; and canned food
drives to assist the Salvation Army. The children also participate in
the Heifer Project. In years past, children have raised over $2000 to
purchase animals to give to families around the world.
