First
United Methodist Church of Wenatchee, Washington is a historic
congregation that is doing ministry in a most incredibly new way.
First United Methodist
Church of Wenatchee, Washington, is a historic congregation that is
doing ministry in fresh, new ways. This 1,000 member congregation
offers 3 distinctly different worship services; child friendly Sunday
School classes; and active youth groups for middle and senior high
teens. Adults can expand their understanding of their faith through
the Lay School of Theology and Caring and Growth Groups. Members are
actively involved in local mission projects, and have sent several
volunteer mission teams to Mexico, Guatemala, and in the Summer of 2005,
to the Kentucky Appalachians. Our Heart to Heart volunteers provide
regular visits to shut-ins and nursing home residents.
Each person in the
congregation is encouraged to worship regularly, participate in groups
for learning and spiritual growth, and to seek out opportunities for
service in the name of Christ.
Established in 1895,
First Church is one of more than 260 United Methodist churches of the
Pacific Northwest Conference, serving Washington State and Northern
Idaho. A staff of 13 full and part-time persons provides talented
leadership to this active congregation. |

We believe in God, creator of the world; and in Jesus Christ, the
Redeemer of creation. We believe in the Holy Spirit, through whom we
acknowledge God's gifts, and we repent our sin in misusing these gifts
to idolatrous ends.

What
We Believe
As
United Methodists, we have
an obligation to bear a
faithful Christian witness
to Jesus Christ, the living
reality at the center of the
Church’s life and witness.
To fulfill this obligation,
we reflect critically on our
biblical and theological
inheritance, striving to
express faithfully the
witness we make in our own
time.

|
Social Principles
The
United Methodist Church has
a long history of concern
for social justice. Its
members have often taken
forthright positions on
controversial issues
involving Christian
principles.

|
History of the Church
On
April 23, 1968, The United
Methodist Church was created
when Bishop Reuben H.
Mueller, representing The
Evangelical United Brethren
Church, and Bishop Lloyd C.
Wicke of The Methodist
Church joined hands at the
constituting General
Conference in Dallas, Texas.

|
The
Constitution
The
organization of each unit in
the church is carefully
spelled out in the Book of
Discipline. All members are
at least acquainted with the
local church. It includes
those who have professed
their belief in Christ, have
been baptized, and have
taken the vows of
membership.
